Emporia, Kansas is known for instigating Veterans' Day as a national holiday. As a new member of the community, I chose to attempt to relate to my community as well as to the people of my nation. The setting is in a foresty area beside Emporia's Veterans' Memorial to commemorate the Veterans who have given up so much for America. I chose to model myself to portray how I would imagine a veteran would feel after surviving a war in which many of his or her comrades had died. My grandfather had been a veteran of World War II, and I have a brother who is currently in Reserves, so I also have a personal connection with veterans even though I may not quite understand the emotions they experience on their return home. I would imagine that civil life is much different than the life they have experienced for possibly many, many years. There is a sad reality that many veterans feel like aliens in their own country in which they fought to protect. Thank you, all you who have sacrificed so much for America.

I think the image is very well done. Although I wish there were some indicators of your meaning behind the image such as parts of a soldier uniform or the American flag.
